Kids on Board

When we owned our 104' historic sailing ship, Generall de la Rey, it resounded with the laughter of kids.

We lived aboard for ten years with our two fost-adopt daughters, Joy and  LaMargo. My niece, Stephanie, and her friends were frequent visitors, too.  Two of Joy's cousins, Kerri and Randy, travelled from South Dakota to spend two different summers with us.

Sharing our vessel with kids  was always a lot of fun.  There were wonderful places to play hide and seek , enjoy imaginary play and pretend there was a ghost on board.

For our  daughter, Joy, the ship was her full-time home between the ages of two and half and twelve. She loved her majical, adventuresome life on board.   So you can imagine her dismay when we finally sold the vessel!   But that's another story we hope to tell in our future book, Ten Years Before the Mast.

This section needs your help.  What experiences have you had with kids on board,   from infants to school age kids to teenagers?  Please write and let us know what worked and didn't work for you.

Giving kids a life at sea whether you are crusing or living in a marina, is an incredible legacy and will impact on them throughout their lives.
